About Me

I’m an environmental and science reporter with a M.A. degree in journalism from Michigan State University (MSU). These stories about the decline of butterflies and the Poweshiek skipperling are my professional project and were the final step toward my degree in August 2025.

Before switching to journalism, I earned a M.S. degree from MSU in Fisheries and Wildlife and have worked for more than 20 years in conservation with The Nature Conservancy’s West Virginia and Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota Chapters, the MN Department of Natural Resources, The Conservation Fund and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan.

Hiking in northern Italy. The outdoors has always been my happy place.

When I realized I could merge my passions for science and conservation with storytelling, I decided to take the plunge and change my career to journalism.

I have completed reporting internships with MLive in Grand Rapids and WKAR in East Lansing in Michigan. My work has appeared in many outlets throughout the state, including the Detroit Free Press, MLive, WKAR, Bridge Michigan, Capital News Service, Great Lakes Echo, Planet Detroit, Lansing State Journal, Midland Daily News, Traverse City Record-Eagle, Cadillac News, Michigan Farm News and others.

I’m a proud prairie nerd and in my free time enjoy spending time with my partner Paul, our three cats and seven chickens, plus photography, hiking, gardening, running, hunting and reading.
